In every organization, there exists various types of management. The different types are classified according to roles and objectives. The main types of management include; operations, risk, strategic, finance, marketing, and human resource management. Operation management is usually in charge of overall company operations while risk management controls risk involved in running the business; the function also insures the enterprise. Strategic management sets objectives and plans of running the business with efficiency while finance management controls all enterprise’s financial transactions. Marketing management is usually in charge of all sales and procurement areas in a firm while human resource management hires, dismisses and controls all human personnel in an organization ( Buckingham & Coffman, 2014 ). Organizations have different levels which include top, middle and low levels. Top level managers enshrines CEOs and board of management. The group focusses on overall running of the organization. Middle-level managers include general and departmental managers. The figureheads implement policies set from top management to low-level managers. Managers at the low level are supervisors and foremen in charge of assigning employees duties on the day to day activities (Hummel, 2018).
Vertical and horizontal structures of management are implemented depending on nature of the organization. The type of structure is critical to maximizing employee’s productivity. Vertical structure is a scenario where top management oversees the overall organization. According to Hummel (2018), decisions and policies are implemented by top level management through middle-level managers; all employees are answerable to senior managers in the hierarchy. Horizontal structure is has no middle managers; employees are usually in charge of daily activities. Majority of workers often report to just one manager.
