Communication is crucial for our day-to-day interactions. How we convey our sentiment to those who have opposite opinions guarantees if a conversation will be efficient or not. Ignoring other people’s expressions leads to ethical consequences, thus damaging relations between the conflicting parties. Besides, it affects the strengths of people to change their behaviors as well as defending them judiciously for people's benefits. If individuals decide to listen to those that have different opinions, they can work together to solve problems, thus guaranteeing inclusivity and teamwork.

It is essential to consider other people’s opinions or ideologies so that one can have meaningful communication. Ethics may carry different meanings for different people depending on their background, which may result in ethical dilemmas. The moral implication of not listening to disagreeing voices includes intent, means, and end (Wrench, 2011). Intent involves being aware of the ethicality of a situation, and means consists of the processes one utilizes to pass their message and end is the result that one aims to achieve. These factors determine the ethicality of a particular behavior. People have the right to make ethical decisions on what they listen to or choose to ignore. When one receives a communication, they have the moral obligation either to spread it or not. This communication may be offensive or not, but the choice to spread it depends on the individual. Making a choice not to listen to contradicting information may lead to a damaged relationship, difficultness in changing our beliefs, and the inability to defend our ideas reasonably and beneficially (Alberts, 2010). Not listening to other’s opinions hinders flawless interactions.

When people decide to listen to those they do not agree with, they gain a lot. They can have constructive communications. When individuals have thoughtful conversations with people they disagree with, both parties can offer various perspectives on the issue they are contending; hence, they can approach the situation in a more diverse approach (Blades & Gable, 2018). By tolerating different opinions, we can build relationships as well as allow collaborative effort and inclusivity when solving a problem. Moreover, political polarization can be combated if people are willing to respect other’s opinions, which enable meaningful engagements. By recognizing the ideologies that people prescribe to, it creates an enabling environment for individuals to work together on a particular goal to champion for change.

In conclusion, it is better to acknowledge that we live in a world where people are entitled to their own opinions. It reduces conflict, as individuals understand each other’s perspective other than discrimination. It is essential to facilitate smooth and reasonable communication among people who have diverse beliefs. An excellent communicator can listen to what others have to say without judgement.
