Fossil fuel is a significant source of the world’s energy and can be used sustainably. The best scenario where fossil fuels are well used is when there is a disruption of the oil supply because of a natural disaster. The use of fossil fuels can help to reduce the economic risks that can come with a lack of oil. Non-renewable energy is obtained from sources that can run out, and one of the methods of obtaining non-renewable energy is through extraction or underground mining. An example of nonrenewable energy is coal. Coal is a rock that is burned to create energy. It is mined out of the ground using two different methods, which are underground mining and surface mining (Xu et al., 2019). These two mining methods are used in different underground mining scenarios when the coal is under the earth's surface. Here the miners use heavy machinery to bring out the coal above the earth, and it is a dangerous method as the process makes the coal release a dangerous gas, which can cause an explosion. Surface mining is used when the coal is located very near the surface of the earth. The daily use of coal can be dangerous as it releases toxic gases that pollute the air. Society views this nonrenewable energy as a great form of energy that has helped them in electricity generation and energy that helps produce steel, power generation, and manufacture cement. Coal is a reliable source of energy; it can be used at any time of the day to produce fuel and energy, which is beneficial to society (Adams et al., 2018). The use of coal in developed countries helps produce reliable and affordable electricity and reduces the emission of gases from greenhouses. It also helps produce more oil, which is used to meet the growing economy's demand in developed countries. The price of coal is affordable in many countries as it is locally extracted. The use of coal has brought major changes in many households as they can now save on electricity as they can use coal. It has also benefited industries as it is the cheapest form of energy that they can use and save on the cost of production (Musial et al., 2016). Although coal is a good source of energy, it affects the environment as it releases dangerous gas when used during extraction, which tends to affect the environment. The extraction of coal destroys the environment as trees are cut, and the soil is taken away from the area where the coal is being extracted.
