Institutional discrimination is based on laws established by society or some companies about their operations. Discrimination has been an issue in the United States from the past when the black Americans were enslaved and considered as the inferior race. Most people who experienced discrimination are already passed and the compensation would not pay for the emotional, mentally and psychological torture experienced. There are different ways in which compensation can be achieved, such as offering equal opportunities to all Americans despite their background, race, gender, or personality.

The cost would be too much, and that would not change the emotional and psychological trauma such as people experienced. However, there are some special cases such as the Central Park Five where compensation should be offered. Central Park Five is about five teenagers who were wrongfully accused of violating a woman sexually in 1989. The young adults were imprisoned for thirteen years until the individual who committed the crime confessed and he was a serial rapist. Central Park Five is a case of institutionalized discrimination by the criminal justice system. The teenagers lost the best years of their life in prison for a crime they did not commit. Compensation, in this case, would be the right thing to do since it would help the teenagers to establish their lives.

Discrimination against minority groups in America is the reason why inequality levels are high in the states. The minority groups have been fighting for equality in society to make sure that unjust and unfair situations do not repeat themselves. The unfair treatment of the minority groups cannot be compensated by money or rewards. The number of years that these individuals were treated unfairly and denied chances in the society cannot be compensated. However, the government has a chance of making America a just and fair society, where all citizens, despite their background, are offered equal opportunities.
