In gathering the patient’s historical background on his health, it is important to gather information on his socioeconomic status to determine his ability to access quality medical care and the type of diet (Ball et al, 2015). This will give information on the availability of health insurance and susceptibility to lifestyle diseases. For the old man, he is in the lower socioeconomic status due to lack of a stable source of income; relies on his daughter, a single mother who has barely enough money to help her father. Also, it is important to gather information on the spiritual background of the patient to determine whether there are beliefs that I am not familiar with. In this case, I intend to use the acronym FICA. This will gather information on faith and belief, importance, community, address in care. The information gathered will help in determining right diagnosis considering spiritual distress (United States Department of Human & Health Services).
When considering cultural factors, emphasis will be on beliefs, language, moral values, laws- in terms of rules and behavior, as well as traditions. I already know that the patient is Asian. Therefore, the important thing to consider is how his cultural background will interfere with the treatment. However, consideration will be on the treatment should have little effect on her daughter; thus privacy is key even to close relatives as well as relatives medical history (Wannasirikul et al, 2016).
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
The following questions will help in gathering socioeconomic, cultural, and spiritual information about the 82-year old at risk Asian patient:
What is your highest level of education?
If you are not currently working, did you ever work before, and if yes, do you have any health insurance cover?
Are you a part of any spiritual community: may be a temple, or in any group of like-minded friends?
Is there anything about your beliefs and culture that would help me offer the best medical care for you?
How would like me to proceed, as your provider of healthcare, in addressing your current situation.
