Globalization has contributed immensely to growth in international business. Currently, people can conduct business in any country effectively. However, failure to research a country's communication can confuse and fail to execute the project as expected. In Japan, people communicate in a puzzling way as compared to other countries. The method's utilization is intended to pave the way for a more holistic approach to understand the foreigner's culture and character. Learning about Japanese greetings, communication style, and personal space is important for foreigners. 

The greeting is one of the important factors to consider before engaging in business in Japan. The country's corporate world views greetings as a way of making a stellar first impression. It contributes to the decisions on the long-term business relationship. Japanese value greeting with a bow. It is viewed as a sign of respect. Bows can range from simple nodding of the head to extensive bending the waist. Business etiquette is vital because the Japanese do not use handshakes on most occasions. In the case of a handshake, one should not initiate it but follow the business partner's lead. During the foreign business plan stage, one should learn about basic Japanese greeting words. Japanese view exchanging of greetings using their language as respectful and impressive.

The Japanese utilize indirect communication, which is far less verbose as compared to English. As a foreigner, one should learn to rely less on words in conveying a context. You should express your views, opinions, or ideas using expressions and posture because they are attentive to such cues. Despite the heavy reliance on non-verbal communication, the foreigners need to understand their appropriateness. While holding a conversation, Japanese restrains gesture as their body language. They prefer holding hands to prevent a lot of gesturing. Japanese communication is rich in politeness. During the conversion process, one should often nod regardless of whether one agrees or not with what is being discussed since it is a way of expressing politeness. One should avoid displaying soles of the feet and eye contact. It is considered rude. The Japanese also rely on ambiguous speech and understatement to convey their messages and make them more subtle. Learning about common business understatements will allow the foreigner to maintain communication harmony throughout the conversation. The best way of navigating ambiguous speech is by using rhetoric statements to find their meaning and seek further clarification from your guest. Also, one should use open-ended questions to keep the conversation flowing. 

Personal space is also an important communication skill that foreigners have to be versed in. Japanese people value personal privacy, and the practice is closely guarded by nondisclosure of nonessential information. When two people are engaging in a conversation, the third one is expected to retreat. As a foreigner, each time your college or business partner is having a conversation with a third party whom you are not aware of, kindly retreat. It is considered a way of allowing others to initiate private communication. Japanese society is built on the foundation of understanding personal space. Sensibilities and comfort outweigh self-interest. 

Japanese communication is quite different from that of Western countries. Greetings are considered important tool since it is first impressive perspective in business deals. The foreigner needs to learn about how to bow since it is an important greetings method. The Japanese utilize indirect communication mechanisms. During a conversion process, one should use expressions and posture more than verbalization. The Japanese consider personal space as an important ground for privacy. One is expected to restrain from a conversation between people who know each other. Learning about Japanese communication style, greetings, and personal space will contribute to how one executes business activities in Japan.
