Media plays a very significant role in disseminating information to citizens not only within the country but also all over the world. With the advancement in technology, there is also growth in the media industry enabling transfer of information much faster than ever before. In the United States, there is an event going on concerning the wall that will separate the states and Mexico. In that connection, there are news-making headlines that took place on the January 8th, 2019 that says that "trump speech lacked news" according to the New York Times. The headline is similar to that of Toronto Star, but the content seems to have some differences. It is difficult to identify which paper that is more reliable that the other unless one gets accurate information from a different source.

The articles from both the New York Times and Toronto star seems to have the same characteristics when it comes to language usage. They employ sarcasm to some point because if one can check the headline, to some point, it has irony in it for instance "trump lack news in his speech" makes it sarcastic to the readers. In most of the cases, the authors do not add their own opinion, but they mostly paraphrase the statements when they are reporting. Paraphrasing is a complex task sometimes because if the author fails to do it correctly, it might change the meaning, therefore, misleading the readers and painting a bad picture not only to the person who said the words but also to the paper.

When it comes to facts, a times difference arises between the two papers may because they depend on different people who provide the news to the paper publishers. In most cases, they speak about the same things, but sometimes one can find that a paper can be having more information in comparison to the other. This is the reason to why most of the media try to ensure that they have access to more detailed and accurate information so that they can attract more readers or listeners because the public is looking for accurate and detailed information.

Both papers do also employ the use of quotes especially when reporting homebody’s words. The use of quotes is a reliable method because the authors do not have to paraphrase the statement. Paraphrasing the statements if not correctly carried out might change the meaning distorting the meaning of the report. The objective of the two sources is neutral, and this is very important when it comes to the media because that is where the public will get the information from therefore they should remain neutral to avoid convincing people otherwise. Using quotes and avoiding addicting personal opinion on the news shows the state of being neutral for both of the news sources.

The two sources play an important role in conveying information to the public, therefore, making the two sources important. New York times seem more reliable because of its ability to have in-depth details in comparison to Toronto Star. The reason behind it is that the New York Times has more detailed information in contrast to the Toronto star making it more dependable than the other does. The two sources attain the level of professionalism in the way they handle the news. They all adhere to guiding roles and regulation of media.

One can conclude that the media play a significant role in informing the public. However, sometimes the information can differ depending on the source of information. New York Times and Toronto star are among the leading papers in the United States that play a major role in disseminating the information to the citizens.
