Working with large populations in qualitative research always has overarching factors that may limit the ability of a researcher in conducting a comprehensive study. Cases of domestic violence are quite frequent in society with women forming the majority of the affected population. The study seeks to survey about 15000 affected women who in recent times have received assistance services in the form shelters in the city. According to Etikan, Musa, & Alkassim (2016), the over-arching factor, in this case, remains the insufficiency in funding that ultimately limits the potential of carrying out the study to its expected conclusion given the size of the affected population. The study, therefore, shall consider sampling strategies and techniques that not only would effectively allow the research teamwork within a limited budget but manage to collect representative data to help in supporting the position and purpose of the study. The study shall apply the non-probability technique to select a sample population. Non-probability sampling technique is applicable in the event the sample population odds cannot be calculated (Uprichard, 2013). The method, therefore, relies on the researcher to use their subjective judgment in making the choice on which group effectively meets the characteristics of the population and are appropriate to be used as a representative of the entire population. The sampling strategy that would be applied in this study would be a convenience sampling strategy. Using convenience sampling involves conducting a comprehensive sampling from a point the researcher finds to be convenient in meeting with the population. Etikan, Musa, & Alkassim (2016) states that, convenience lies in the fact that the researcher has the discretion of deciding who fits the sample characteristics they would like introduced and used in the study. The strength associated with using non-probability sampling anchors on the aspect of cost-effectiveness. The technique allows the researcher to limit the resources, both time and funds used in preparing and conducting sample selection. The technique is easier to apply especially when dealing with large population sizes under strained funding. The weakness in using the sampling technique is that the sample may fail to be representative of the population under discussion. It, therefore, becomes impossible to calculate and work with other statistical features such as margins of error. However, in this instance, it would be convenient and appropriate to use non-probability sampling as a technique for the study.
