The Eastern Band of Cherokees is located in the Qualla Boundary in the Western section of North Carolina. This is their current location following their purchase of the land in the 1800s. The area is next to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Forceful Removal

The Cherokee were forcefully removed from the Southeast because the government desired more land and gold from Georgia in the year 1838. The removal led to what has been known as the Trail of Tears after which they were relocated to Oklahoma.
