The discovery of the new lands on the Western Atlantic opened new doors to the European colonizers to advance their exploitation as well as establish trading routes. However, their encounter with native communities opened an opportunity to introduce their religion to them despite the communities having their own traditions and religion. Pursuit for economic opportunities would have been the ideal course for the European colonizers as it was a common interest for all of them compared to religion. The Europeans hailed from different countries and thus had different religions. The Spaniards were Catholic affiliated while the British were Protestants. This presented a challenge to the European colonizers as each rushed to establish their presence and religion which was viewed as a mark for territorial occupation.

Exploitation of the American lands and the native communities presented greater economic benefits. The cost of establishing plantations and running plantations was very cheap due to the presence of cheap and available labor from the slaves who came from the native communities. The lands were still fertile due to minimal usage and thus were promising in production of bumper harvests. Natural resources were readily available for exploitation and free since there were no established governments or authority to govern or restrict usage of the land for the extractions of the resources. The native communities provided a ready market for the products brought by the Europeans as they had superior products due to their level of advancement. The native communities occupied small areas of the vast American land therefore there was a lot of land for expansion to utilize as plantation farms and other areas of economic developments. Therefore, it is clear that pursuing economic opportunities would have brought a lot of benefits to the European colonizers than pursuing freedom of religion which brought a lot of contention and conflict.
