The Phenomenology of Practice Theory was developed by Edmund Husser to clarify how people give meaning to social phenomena in their everyday lives. It is imperative to note that the phenomenological method tends to support in collecting data in form of in-depth semi organized or unstructured interviews which also include individual data such as diaries. Such interviews are to ensure that the information provided could be compared with others. For example, Porter and colleagues used the Phenomenology of Practice Theory to understand the meaning of people living in residential homes. To conduct that process, they used in-depth individual interviews.

Phenomenology of practice theory highlights complex and broad understanding of ideas those are difficult to apprehend (William, 2012). Such aspects include how the society functions, and why people interact in a certain manner. The theory gives researchers a diverse approach to solve difficult problems and subjects, concentrating their attention on different aspects of data and providing a framework that can be used to conduct such analysis. For example, it is very difficult to understand why a certain culture is formed in that manner (Kersten, 2012). In the case, the only way of interpret their actions is through using different practices that focuses on the issue. In the health care setting, Phenomenology of practice theory provides a clear guideline on how nurses could solve certain problems relating to their practice. The main role of the phenomenology is to attempt and explore the essence of perception from the different points of interpretation. The theory was also developed to provide clear context of analyzing individual at a personal level. For example, the use of in depth interviews is to try and get information pertaining to a person (William, 2012). From that information, the researcher can be able to compare their findings. The theory aims at proving insight to some of the human experience on various issues. That is why it focuses on the use of interviews as way of getting to know more about a person.

Phenomenology of Practice Theory can interface with qualitative interviews regarding health care P4P. In the health care setting, both the health care practitioners and the patients belong to diverse cultural backgrounds. It is important to understand how their culture might influence their perception of medical care. By using the Phenomenology of Practice Theory, it will provided an in-depth analysis of the issues presented that might change their perceptions. What is more, the theory tends to use qualitative methods which are informed by phenomenological philosophy. The use of qualitative approach is an effective method as it provided flexibility of the research. In the health care, it is critical to interview the both the patients and the health care givers on their perception about the P4P program. As much as the program aims at benefiting them, they should have a clear mentality about the goals and objective of that program. The other way through which the theory interfaces with qualitative interviews, is the fact that, it can be either formal or informal. By using the informal method, it will make the participant to feel relax during the interview process. The use of formal process mostly takes place if the participant is family with the issues. In most cases, many participants prefer the use of informal structure to make them feel free and relaxed. The use of qualitative process will not limit the research in terms of data collection process.
