For social research to be effectively done, researchers should assess the benefits of generalizing social patterns from the information obtained. The topic of how various types of parenting styles affect the development of children's development outcome is appropriate for social research. Psychologists seem to have been interested in how parents affect child development (Aunola et al., 2000). Finding the real cause and effect relationship of the actions of parents and the behavior that their children later develop is, however, difficult. Some of the children that are raised in dramatically different environments can later grow into very similar personalities. On the other hand, children that are brought up in the same environment may grow to have very different personalities. There however has to be a relationship between parenting styles and their effects on children; which may carry over into adulthood.

Parenting styles have greatly affected many children. Not only in a particular case but also children brought up in diverse socio-economic status as well as location. Every adult’s character now is based on the type of parenting they received when they were kids. These parenting styles generally fall into four major categories. They include authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful (Rhee et al., 2006). According to the study, authoritative parenting styles mainly results in children who are capable, happy and successful. Authoritative parents are often warm and responsive, have clear rules, supportive and usually have high expectations from their kids.

Children who have gone through the neglectful parenting style are likely to be suicidal and get involved in drug and alcohol abuse. Neglectful parents are cold and unresponsive, and uninvolved and have no rules. Different kids, however, need different parenting practices and not parenting styles. Some of these parenting practices include involvement, support, approval, warmth, monitoring, control and harsh punishment. A parent could be warmer, or less warm, but still warm. According to psychologists, being warm and having high standards is authoritative and is the best parenting style.

Authoritarian parents have high demandingness and low responsiveness. Although authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles have almost similar names, they have some major differences in parenting beliefs. Both parental styles demand high standards, but authoritarian parents demand blind obedience. The often use the reason “because I said so”. They employ stern discipline and usually punish their children as a way of controlling their behavior. Authoritarian parents never respond to their children’s needs and are generally not nurturing. Their children hence tend to be unhappy, less independent, appear insecure, have poor social skills, have lower self-esteem and show more behavioral problems.

The dependent variables (measured variable) include the Cultural socio-economic, political-economic. The research will evaluate participants based on the kind of parenting they received when they were kids and how it’s currently affecting them now as adults. If a participant had strict but involved parents under the age of 18, that includes curfews and strict rules, they would turn out to be more responsible adults. On the other hand, participants whose parents who demanded rules to be followed blindly ended up rebelling at later ages. These are independent variables. This research will help determine whether there is a connection between the independent variables and the socio-economic, cultural and political environment of the participants. With the improvement in technology, for example, parents are developing common interests with their children. They are, however, concerned with their wellbeing in the days to come. Generally, from the above discussion, we can deduce that the parenting styles are mainly determined by the parenting practices a parent chooses. The independent variable is hence the parenting practices which a parent picks during childrearing, which influence the type of parenting style they will adapt (Spera., 2005). The study question is scientific since following various researches on parenting, the outcome of various parenting styles seems to be common. Although one can adopt a certain type of parenting style, and still fail to acquire similar results, these cases are rare. According to research, it has been established that once a parent chooses a certain type of parenting style, their children are likely to have similar characters as those associated with that parenting style (Rhee et al., 2006).

The study is descriptive since it describes the characteristics of all the parenting styles being studied. Descriptive studies, however, don’t answer the question of when, how or why the characteristics occurred, which also makes the study explanatory since it tries to explain exactly why different people end up having different characters and behavior based on the kind of parenting style they underwent. It is also an evaluative study since it involves collecting and analyzing information about various activities, characteristics. These are then used to judge the activity in question, improve its effectiveness and help in making major decisions. The research is applied since, by definition, applied research is one which seeks to answer a question in the real world and to solve a problem.

The study seeks to find the solution to an existing problem (effects of parenting styles on children's development outcome). From the already existing data, we try to apply that to answer major questions about parenting. ‘Why do people end up being how they are? How was their parenting, and how has it contributed to their character now?' The study also happens in a real-world setting and not in a sterile environment. Parenting takes place every day. Babies are born every minute, and from the minute she/he is born, the parents decide on how they will bring their baby up. Although parenting styles may vary according to the age of child or environment, it is still something that parents have to choose every day in their life; where they will adopt the authoritarian, authoritative, permissive or neglectful style of parenting. This is, therefore, an applied type of study
