Primarily, sociological researches provide insights on attitudes, patterns, and interactions occurring in our society. There are distinct theories that have been proposed on why certain things happen in a unique design. However, many phenomena consider the individual, ignoring the factors that lead to the phenomena—for instance, suicide. Studies have indicated that religion is a factor behind suicide, and in particular, suicide cases are more prevalent in a specific religion than others.

According to functionalism perspective in sociology, functionalists always identify family like a unit that always keep the whole community running. Thus, homes are associated with elements like customs, norms, institutions and traditions. I believe, sociology has helped me understand family in the form of protection, care and support of emotions; a platform of assignment of status plus control of sexual related behaviors in the community. The family at large develops good integrated individuals for the society and puts in culture in the new society members. Arguably, family is responsible for social replacements that includes bearing and replacing the dead members. Sociology also teaches that, at homes, individuals develop emotional security since families offer support and care to those persons in need of care.

Nonetheless, the sociology conflict theory indicates the making of society from distinct persons from diverse social classes. They compete for material, political and social resources like houses, education, and employment. Moreover, the theories and concepts show the way individuals work in society plus the way they compete for available resources. Therefore, it is essential to know the views since they show how the community works and create an ideal society. An individual can understand his/her role in society through help from the sociological concepts. Nonetheless, the theories are also a suitable learning experience opportunity for the future. The approaches are sometimes very aged but still model good and advanced societies, proving that the societal rules have not advanced much.

Identify a minimum of two different sociological concepts or theories you learned. Explain how you will apply the sociological concepts and theories to your work, home, and community life.

The sociological concepts and theories which I learned were gender roles and inequality. Firstly, gender roles from a functionalist perspective show that they exist to maximize social efficiency. From their arguments, gender roles at work, home, and community life exist to ensure the division of labor, or even as a social system, that specific individuals are responsible for some labor acts ( Kalev & Deutsch, 2018 ). Mainly, the division of labor boosts efficiency and maximizes resources. Men provide for the family while women take care of the home. Thus, gender plays a huge role in social stability.

Largely, sociologists attribute other behavioral differences between distinct genders to socialization, which get explained by transferring beliefs, norms, values, and behaviors to other individuals. Individuals in the society must be taught to behave socially based on assigned gender, which gets confirmed after birth. I will apply the sociological concept concerning gender roles in addressing and educating females and males on beliefs, norms, values, and behaviors in society at large.

I believe inequality and social stratification are inevitable but benefit society at large. People with less power receive few rewards compare to high-quality people in the upper classes. Unequal distribution of resources serves a significant premium in the community; thus, inequality ensures that the massively qualified individuals acquire the functionality tasks ( Kalev & Deutsch, 2018 ). Similarly, in real-life situations, social inequality involves having the ability to vote, freedom of speech, access education, traveling, and healthcare, among others. I will ensure no form of discrimination due to social inequality in my workplace, home, or society by creating awareness for the whole community on the importance of equality.
