In his book, Gyges’ Ring, Socrates talks of how Glaucon found out a magical ring that could make him invisible. Socrates poses the question of whether the persons owning the magic ring would act in ethically or would abuse his powers. Egoism in action psychology is the theory that tries to explain the nature of human motive. According to psychological egoism, every behavior and action is as a result of self-interest ( Kitcher & Philip, 2011) . Glaucon believe that it is through understanding people that one can tell what their position is. Whether doing the wrong thing is desirable and suffer wrong is undesirable. His arguments point to the fact that human beings tend to compromise with others and form a compact so that they cannot harm each other as they try to avoid suffering. Human being strife is to protect themselves from harm. The argument by Glaucon does not align with Genetic evidence.

The argument by Glaucon to some extent supports psychological egoisms theory. He believes that human being tends to use justice as a shield to protect themselves from harms that may result from disobeying the set society laws ( Shafer-Landau & Russ, 2017) . His argument, therefore, tends to suggest that it is in human being interest to obey law since they fear the consequences of failing to follow the law. They, therefore, do anything possible to ensure they are on the right side of the law. To this extent, his sentiments agree with the ethical, psychological theories and ethical egoism. It can then be said that Glaucon believed that every individual is selfish, egoistic and self-interested.
