The “El Sistema program would not be practical in the United States because the structure of the program differ significantly from that in America in terms of culture and funding. For instance, participants are required to attend the training four hours daily after school and on weekends too, something that most American educators and parents would not agree. Additionally, availability of many distractions and opportunities in America would make time investment requirement not applicable in the country. Furthermore, the government usually provides most funding for such programs but since the American government offers very little for the program, it cannot be feasible in the country.
I agree with Melissa Lesniak thesis that the El Sistema program can be implemented successfully in the United States if the economic and political barriers are removed. Reinforcing awareness regarding the EI Sistema program in the American funding entities and politicians, and capture then media attention would contribute significantly towards making the program feasible. Therefore, providing consistent advocacy support for the program at the local, state, and national levels would generate visibility to the government and funding entities regarding the significant of the program in enhancing music education.

To make the program work in areas of severe poverty in the United States, I would work with interested organizations who are willing to fund to program and start with the little capital available. The aim is to develop the program and demonstrate to the government the effectiveness of the program in these poverty areas as well as present proof of the benefit the program has to its participants. Since the U.S government funding structure is firmly established, and requires proof of the benefits and effectiveness of the program in order to be funded, this would be a good strategy in making access to government funding possible. Access to government funding would make establishment of the program in these poverty-stricken areas in the United States very possible.
