The DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) is a degree in nursing. It was first brought into the limelight in 2001, by Dr. Williams (Bemker & Schreiner, 2016). The reason for its launch was the monopoly of the MSN (Maters of Nursing Degree) degree, which was basically for the Terminal Degree. DNP, therefore, stepped in to offer current knowledge in the healthcare industry, which was changing at a faster rate.
How Social, Economic and Professional Changes for Nursing in Recent Years Have Influenced the Scope of Practice for The DNP Prepared Nurse

Socially, people's access to health care influenced the scope of healthcare for the DNP. Due to MSN being the only program offering a degree in healthcare, not everyone could get treatment according to what they were ailing from (Bemker & Schreiner, 2016). There was a need of a full area of research in the field. Most people could, therefore, be able to get access to treatment because the number of nurses would increase due to a new course offering a different solution.
Due to the monopoly of MSN Degree, it was expensive for most people who wanted to study nursing. It led to the development of the DNP degree to counter the economic challenge in recent years (Killien et al,2017). Its launch saw a decline in prices for the course; therefore, most people were able to join it and study because it became affordable.
The nursing profession in recent years had a few numbers of people because of a lack of options for what they would want to study. MSN Degree was not for everyone. Bringing in DNP brought an increase in this profession. People were able to get what they want.
Why Knowledge of the Past Can Prepare One for Future Nursing
Traditional knowledge can be able to help prepare someone who has an interest in practicing nursing in the future. Although the health care sector today has gone a little bit higher, having background information can always help by giving a clue about the expectations in nursing. Knowing the past is an advantage. It is better than venturing in the field with no idea at all of what happens.
What Has Informed My Opinion
Personal experience has made me appreciate my prior knowledge in healthcare. My aunt used to be a traditional nurse in the olden days, and she could treat us with herbal medicine. She has since joined the modern world of healthcare, and she has proven that her prior knowledge motivated her and prepared her well to be where she is today.
