Emotional intelligence is a measure of an individual’s perception of his or her emotion and how one can apply and manage his or her emotion for self-growth and social relations (James, Bore & Zito, 2012). Personality or psychometric tests, on the other hand, are essential in understanding your traits as well as those of others. Therefore, high emotional intelligence in conjunction with taking a personality assessment test helps in the development of quality relationship on a personal level and a working environment.

High capacities for self-awareness, social awareness, and social skills ensures that one understands and manage emotions better (James et al., 2012). Therefore, a person with high emotional intelligence can communicate about his or her feeling in a more effective manner. Due to social awareness, a person can respond appropriately to other people’s situations. By comprehending others’ feelings, needs, and responses, a person will be able to build a stronger relationship.

Aside from the better perception of other people’s actions and quality communication, emotional intelligence is important in conflict resolution, which is key to ensuring a continuous and fulfilling relationship (Pearman, 2016). By being able to discern another person’s emotions and putting yourself in their position, one can easily resolve a conflict that might jeopardize a healthy relationship. One can even avoid such conflicts before they start.

Personality test helps a person to understand himself better. One can learn how other people might respond to their actions. Taking a personality test is a chance for self-reflection, an opportunity to explore your strengths and weakness (“Importance of Personality Testing- Virtual HR”, n.d.). By better understand oneself, a person can use his strength while working on his weakness to help develop a healthier relationship.

Understanding personality types can help reduce workplace conflict in many different ways. In addition to knowing your personality type, it is important to understand the personalities of your work colleagues. Personality tests help people to learn more about each other. Therefore, when the personality types are shared among workmates, each person can know the likes and dislikes of each other. Therefore, a person is able to relate to someone in a pre-determined manner to avoid factors that might cause conflict (“Importance of Personality Testing- Virtual HR”, n.d.). Team members can know the tasks that their colleagues like and work better at and thus avoid mismatching members with tasks, and, as a result, prevent altercations that may lead to a conflict. When workmates share their personality test among themselves, they are able to note the strength and weakness of each individual, which help them work on some of their differences to develop a more productive and cohesive team atmosphere (“Importance of Personality Testing- Virtual HR”, n.d.).

According to the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test, my personality type is ESTP (Extravert (31%), Sensing (12%), Thinking (6%), Perceiving (22%)). Generally, I am a spontaneous and action-orient individual who likes to work on impulse. In some instances, I find it hard to relate to individuals with different personality type in a work environment. Dealing with individuals who are more analytical, orderly, and prefer system-related solutions is difficult. Being action-oriented and spontaneous in my decision making, working with people who think long-term and solve issues in an orderly and strict manner is hectic (Pearman, 2016). Therefore, individuals with ISTJ, INTJ, INTP, ENTJ, and ESTJ personality types are the most difficult to deal with (Pearman, 2016). At one time, during a work meeting, one of the senior colleagues was presenting an idea to our overall supervisor. However, I did not like the idea and thought I had a better one. I, therefore, interrupted the presentation and proposed my idea to the supervisor without following the due hierarchal procedure. My colleague felt that my spontaneous and direct move was rude and disrespectful. I, therefore, had to apologize to him after the meeting personally.
