Question One

All human beings the world over experience emotions include sadness, anger, shame among others. More often than not the individuals lack the power to decide which emotion comes to them at that time. However, one always have total control of the response they accord to different emotions. It is worth noting that a reaction given to any emotional feeling can have a positive effect of a destructive impact. Therefore, emotional awareness is the ability to recognize, understand and manage one’s own emotions and those of others.

Emotional intelligence is made up of four key fundamental elements which are its backbone.

Self-awareness being able to identify your own emotions and control them for positive power production. This is the earliest stage of emotional intelligence understanding.

Self-management/self-care; this is being able to regulate one’s behavior and actions regardless of the emotional influence.

Social consciousness and other awareness involve being aware of other people’s emotions and putting them into consideration always. This means showing empathy and offering to help when needed.

Relationship management involves leveraging your own emotions and those of others so as to achieve communication and understanding of each other

Students, being managers of their own academic life need to be able to recognize the emotions that surface from them and react appropriately. Attending classes on emotional intelligence can help a student identify and understand the emotions that result in the behaviors they exhibit. A student who can be able to evaluate the effectiveness of their behavior and manage those emotions can create a productive routine in their studies. I find myself in an awkward position more often than not when I can identify my emotions but cannot regulate the reaction. This guides for an improvement in my self-management.

Question Two

Expectancy theory by Victor H. Vroom suggests that all the choices and options made by an individual will always have a motivation factor behind them. Mostly the motivation of the behavior choice is the desirability of the results. It’s always a combination of the expectancy of the individual that a certain effort applied will lead to the intended performance, the role played by this performance to achieve a result and the appealing of the results.

In this class on critical thinking, one needs to equip themselves with evaluation and analysis skills to form a proper unbiased judgment. The skills can well be achieved by gathering information through reading materials, reasoning, experience, and observation on the subject and then applying it. This will definitely take time and energy. I consider the time spent on reading and building on critical thinking a good choice of behavior because the effort brings the intended performance and the desired results. One should note that it becomes a powerful tool when often used.

Question Three

With growing globalization is of great importance that companies are equipped with the right knowledge to help in managing diversity so as to promote the growth and competitiveness of the company. If a company is capable of managing diversity it gives room for inclusivity which promotes creativity and innovation due to the wide pool of experience and culture. With this kind of innovation and creativity in place, a company can develop competitive products on a global stage which market successfully due to their diversity which is tailored to appeal to particular markets around the global stage. Again effective diversity management amidst globalization calls for the need to accommodate the diverse point of views which contributes to information and therefore an environment suitable for career development which in turn helps to align the workers’ goals and objectives with those of the company.

For inclusivity to fully take effect its essential for all workers especially the minorities to get involved in key decision-making matters so that the views of all the workers are put into consideration in the decision of the company. Again with changing times it is of great importance that companies widen their scope of view in relation to managing diversity, this should involve reviewing the various forms of diversity such as sexual orientation, ways of thinking, race, and ethnicity, generation and age, disability and spiritual beliefs. Creating awareness among the workers of these varying forms of diversity would help avoid diversity blindness and help in promoting inclusivity at the workplace. Hiring a diverse workforce should not be seen as the end in achieving and managing diversity but rather continued nurturing and maintenance of the workforce is.

Diversity and inclusivity should be engrained to the culture of the company and especially promoted religiously by the top management so that they may serve as role models to other staffs so as to ensure that its effectiveness in the day to day operations of the company.
