The constantly changing work environment is one of the major factors influencing employees’ choices to take either a part-time or full time job. According to the US bureau of labor statistics, in September 2020 approximately 69,221,000 men over the age of 20 were fulltime workers. On the contrary, those who are in the same age bracket and were part-time workers was 7, 904,000. Women in the same age bracket who were fully employed was approximately 52, 618,000 and those who were employed on part time bases was 13, 723,000.For both sexes, 16 to 19 years, the number of those who were fully employed was approximately 1, 445,000 and those who were employed on full time basis was approximately 3, 535,000 ( US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020) . Aside the above, there have also been dynamics in the rise of consultants and employees. In 2019, for example, the size of the employment market was 156.92 million while that of consulting was 69.9 million. From the previous’ years statistics, it is evident that unlike the number of employees, consultants have steadily increased over the past few years.
Market trends is one of the factors that should be factored in choosing either part-time or full-time employment. The business cycle, for example, would predict whether an organization requires full time or part-time employees. The shift or demand of services to the demand of gig related services is one of the criteria, for example, that could be used to choose whether to have full-time or part-time employees (Valletta et al., 2020). In choosing either a consultant or an employee, the criteria that should be used are the value either of them adds to the company and the suitability of either the employee or consultant to the job (Rozario et al., 2019).

The implication that would be there for both employees and organizations that choose to either pursue part-time or full-time employment is the level of engagement, commitment, and ability to achieve particular job-related goals. The above could be positive or negative for either party. On the other hand, in choosing consultation or employment, companies and individuals have to deal with the regulations that guide either type of relationship, job satisfaction, and dynamics related to work burnout and its effects on the organization.
