Empowerment is the act of giving one power and ability to become stronger in a certain situation. It is an important thing because it enlightens those involved on how to deal with their daily activities. Knowledge is power as it helps people get by things efficiently and effectively. A firefighter is a person whose responsibility is save property and people while extinguishing hazardous fires. They are well trained to manage such emergencies and in some areas they are trained not only hazardous fires but also situations where a building collapses and medical expertise. In order for them to perform their duties effectively it is critical that they are well empowered (Ford, 2011).

Empowerment for the fire and emergency personnel can take place through proper training. Training is where they are instilled with knowledge on how to perform certain tasks when faced with a certain situation while at work. Proper training involves the latest information in that times keep changing and therefore the types of emergency change too. It is critical that the fire and emergency crew are informed of the different situations that could occur ((Ford, 2011)). An example of the chemical types of fire caused like the nitrocellulose chemical. In recent times it is realized that there are new types of chemicals that are explosive and therefore any fire and emergency crew approaching such a scene should also wear protective gear to avoid burns. It is, therefore, paramount that the personnel is well informed of the existence and how to tackle such a situation (Ford, 2011).
