I didn’t know that the state of New York had such a big problem with the contamination of its water resources. A sampling of water resources in the state revealed microbiological contamination in 44.7% of the stations checked (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2018). This figure is quite high considering there were also other contaminants in the stations apart from the microbiological contamination. The watering points sampled may not be the sources of drinking water for people across the state but people still get into contact with this water in their other activities such as fishing, boat riding, and other outdoor activities they may take part in. For this reason it is important for the state to ensure that it puts in place policies and regulations that help to reduce the level of contamination of the water resources in the state to help safeguard the health and livelihoods of the citizens.
As a community health nurse I would make it a priority to lobby the various health and water authorities that I interact with to ensure that the water resources in the state are well taken care of for the sake of the citizens. This will include participating in public forums at the county halls and raising these issues about contamination of water resources as it is the duty of community health nurses to help the public maintain high hygiene standards (Adib-Hajbaghery, 2013). I would also sensitize the people that I interact with to ensure they practice safe water practices. This includes wearing protective clothing when getting in contact with water, and always washing their hands with clean water and soap after getting in touch with untreated water. The hand-washing should also be done before the consumption of foodstuffs and drinks. These hygiene practices should be encouraged and it is a practice I would highly advocate amongst my patients and any other people I get in touch with and ensure that the citizens are healthy and well.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
