The nurse manager that followed up on this activity is Selma Barrientos. The clinical nurse leader (CNL) is expected to oversee many activities in the dialysis center. I observed that this position is not an administrative role as such, but one that requires action on evaluating how patients are doing consistently and making critical decisions concerning such patients ( Sullivan, 2017). The responsibilities of the nurse leader revolve around leading processes and teams, coming up with healthcare plans for patients, and also utilizing the data that they have obtained about a patient to make critical decisions (Sullivan, 2017). It is their responsibility to ensure that they work hand-in-hand with other team members to ensure that they provide the best care possible on them.

The CNL role appears to be very demanding. If RNs would want to be promoted to the position, then they must possess good critical thinking skills since the position involve having to make critical decisions to improve the patient’s health condition (Sullivan, 2017). Additionally, a nurse needs to possess MSN for them to qualify for this role.

Nurse Leader

Nursing professions are taught on how to become better leaders throughout their education. They ought to showcase their leadership skills while leading a team of the nurse in taking care of a patient. The CNL has many leadership skills through the observation that I made and also the feedback received from the nurses on their leader.

The leader applies a democratic leadership style. She believes in allowing the team members to give their opinions in various situations requiring critical decision making. However, as the leader, the final decision lies on her, but she can incorporate some of the team members’ views.

The leader also appears considerate in that she always put the needs of her team members first before anything else to ensure that they are in the right frame of mind to engage in their respective duties. The team members revealed this. One of the ways through which the nurse leader handles responsibility is through delegation of duties to team members to perform them. This is not only effective in preparing them for future leadership, but it also acts as a way of motivating them. As such, their performance can significantly improve as a consequence.

By taking the leading role in the finding for ways through which they can improve the quality of care, this is what is required of a leader in showing the path that nurses ought to follow. In the process, the CNL can impart knowledge and skills that nurses need to improve on their performance and grow in their profession. Through making critical decisions concerning the dialysis center, the CNL will be performing their duty as required by their role. They should be facilitating the information that they need to make such decisions.

The CNL is a great mentor to her team. This quality was deduced from the fact that she was always in constant communication and is always open to consultations and ready to advise the nurses. A good leader must be ready to prepare others for leadership positions by mentoring and passing leadership skills to them. This is what the facility’s CNL seems to be doing. In the process, the nurses are motivated in their job activities, and they can provide sufficient care for patients that are under their supervision.

The CNL also possesses excellent communication skills. This was revealed in the manner in which she gave guidelines on matters that she wanted to be implemented. Her style of communication with the team leaders and everyone else was effective. This is important in ensuring that there are good working relations that are created within the hospital facility.

Communication

Communication plays a critical role in every organization. A leader should create good working relationships with their employees in order to create a conducive environment to work towards achieving the organizational set goals (Sullivan, 2017). Communication interactions in an organization can be upward, downward, or among colleagues who are at the same level. Communication in an organization acts as the starting point of the planning process. Any essential information that exists in the organization must be communicated to the leader who, in turn, will advise on how best the various matters can be implemented. The leader must ensure that information is communicated effectively to avoid problems in implementing any directives and advice. I observed a junior clinical officer engaging the nurse leader. What it appeared to me, was like the junior officer was consulting with the leaders on some aspect. It was an active interaction between the two. I realized that the junior officer left heading back to the hospital facilities with a sense of motivation. This is a clear indication that through making clarifications on employees on what they need to do to complete a particular task, they are excited and happy for the help and direction provided.

In the dialysis center, I also encountered two clinical officers engaging in some consultation between themselves. They were discussing a matter that needed some decision to be made for it to be performed. When colleagues engage each other while making key decisions, they can have alternative courses of action through the brainstorming session. This increases the chances of having better decisions being arrived at. Thus, communication can be viewed as a source of information to other members of the organization, which helps the organization as a whole in making the best decision in various aspects.

As it appears, cur i rently, there is the effectiveness of communication in the health center. However, if the nurse leaders realize that is a breakdown in communication for any reason, they should first analyze the situation to identify the possible causes for the communication breakdown and take action to avoid their recurrence again (Sullivan, 2017). Ultimately, the leaders must ensure that they develop and maintain an effective communication system in the organization.
