Another key aspect of the environmental management system (EMS) is that it should involve all the employees in the organization. The managers in charge of the program should communicate to all the staff regarding the targets that should be attained. Notably, the workers should be allowed to take part in the decision-making process of designing the system. The involvement of the employees in the EMS is essential since it enhances the spirit of team-work and, hence, leads to the achievement of the environmental objectives in time (Collins, 2012).

The other characteristic of the EMS is that it should be comprehensive implying that all the departments and activities of the organization must be captured in the system. The task that contributes more to environmental damage must be prioritized when apportioning the resources. Another feature of the environmental management system is that it should allow for continuous improvement. In each organization, change is inevitable and, hence, the management must ensure that the environmental program is amended regularly to suit the needs of the business (Collins, 2012).
