I believe that there can be just punishment but still unacceptable from the ethical point of view. For instance, capital punishment is considered just by the court of law, but yet it is wrong. When a person commits a mistake like treason, he or she will be arrested and taken to prison where he will be detained for several days waiting for punishment. On the judgment day, when his case is judged, he might be eligible for capital punishment rather referred to as death penalty. The order given by the court for this case, capital punishment, might be just. However, to some extent, it is wrong since the criminal is going to be executed thus violating human rights.

Punishment or correction is meant to help the culprit learn mistakes, refrain from them and change. But in the case of execution, I may consider the punishment being wrong because the person might not even get a chance to refrain and change. The person will only be thinking about the execution. Therefore, this type of punishment is wrong as culprits are not given a chance to change. Moreover, this punishment can be just but still wrong since it is one of the things mainly affecting and violating human rights. Human beings are entitled to life. Therefore, executing the criminals denies them the right to life and this violates the ethical standards in the contemporary society.

Life imprisonment may be the best alternative for the capital punishment as it will ensure that the criminal is offered an opportunity to change from the mistake they did and do what is just according to the law. In addition, by using the alternative which is life imprisonment, one will be assured of the right to live and may reconsider refraining form the criminal activities as opposed to a situation where capital punishment was employed
