Ethical theories provide the decision-making foundation because they represent the viewpoints from which individuals seek guidance as they make judgments. From the scenario of the residents of Oruro, it is evidenced that the residents complained against the Inti Raymi because their rights were being infringed. The social conflict started as soon as the exploitation of the mine in 1983 commenced because the local population was displaced and others sold their lands. In ethical perspective, the right of the residents to property was being denied because of displacement and sell off their land without their will. Rights are considered to be valid and ethically correct if a large population like the resident of Oruro endorse it. In ethical theories based on rights, the rights established by the society are protected and given high priority.

Utilitarian ethical theories are based on ability to predict the consequences of an action. From this scenario, the residents of Oruro are protesting against Inti Raymi because of the environmental pollution caused by the company. The residents are certain that the open pit mining is extremely bad for the environment because of the use of cyanide and the huge amount of water needed. As much as the residents of Oruro right are infringed, Inti Raymi still benefits many individuals. Utilitarianism is not concerned with justice, beneficence or autonomy for an individual but they are concerned with benefits majority of people will get even if oppressing the individual leads to the solution. This is shown in the audit carried in 2009 by PCA Cansultora, which was contrary, and the community denounced the report presented because it was empty of meaningful conclusions and lacked key information.

In conclusion, the residents of Oruro should employ ethical theory in decision making which lead them to the most ethically correct resolution according to the guidelines within the ethical theory itself instead of protesting without correct resolution.
