Ethics is known as a moral principle that dictates and individual’s behavior. In an ideal system, ethics play a big role in decision making. It therefore implies that all decisions should be based on ethics ( Vargas-Hernández, 2020). For instance, the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic led to a lot of ethical challenges in healthcare facilities. Due to high number of covid-19 against the resources available, there is a possibility that healthcare systems might need to regulate and ration their scarce but critical resources. However, rationing such resource have certain complications as since the rationing policies for such pandemic differ from one institution to another where they are mostly guided by law. people in the healthcare systems agree that a patients’ ability to benefit from a resource in a healthcare should be based on first order basis (Nelson, 2015). However, there are concerns on making decision as to the clinical measures that should be used in making determination and ethical factors that need to be considered. Resource allocation should remain ethical in healthcare system in terms of patients benefits, handling of their informed consent.
Similarly, government must make ethical decisions while deciding on how to contain the disease quickly as well as the fundamental rights of its citizens. There is a lot of concerns when the government exercise their jurisdiction to grapple and trace both confirmed and suspected cases of covid-19 through the use of personal data. The questions arise whether the measures infringe the privacy rights of its citizens (Massaro, 2020). It is therefore important that decisions are made to ethical harmonize data privacy rights so that they can be in line with the need for public order and safety that are meant to protect the life and health of the same people. The harmonization should be made in a manner that it does not interfere health authority from processing data needs to fulfil their mandates during public health emergency.
