Dear Senator Alex M. Azar II,
My name is (insert name). I am a nurse informatics specialist (INS) in (state/jurisdiction). I am writing to request your support for a proposal to let a nurse informatics specialist lead the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information (ONC) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ONC, in the efforts to implement interoperability in health care with electronic health records (EHR), published the Proposed Interoperability Standards Measurement Framework to standardize interoperability across different Health Information Technology (HIT). The actions led to the rise of nurse information specialists with both nursing practice and technical expertise. Leveraging their competency in these two areas, INS is unique in defining, managing, communicating data and knowledge in nursing practices. INSs are the secret weapons behind the current progress and advances made in national interoperability.
Furthermore, nursing informatics specialists, especially chief nursing informatics officers (CNIOs), are growing in demand. According to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), CNIOs are a strategic liaison who can fix several challenges in the current health care setting. First, CNIOs represent the nurse and clinician needs in leadership as HIT changes the practice guidelines for their occupations. Secondly, the health care environment is rapidly shifting towards a value-based care model, making CNIOs essential to tackling the challenges of delivering quality services along the continuum of care. Their knowledge, wisdom, and expertise inform evidence-based practice, enhance the quality of care and patient safety. Thirdly, the expertise possessed by the CNIOs puts them in a unique position to translate clinician requirements into coordinated activities and systems as innovative solutions to common challenges. These qualities and competencies are also what the ONC needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
By leading the ONC in times of the pandemic, nursing information specialists contribute in the following ways (not exhaustive):
As the crisis evolves, nursing informatics specialists would help innovate the mass communications systems for health care organizations and significant stakeholders to get critical information in the right hands as fast and efficiently as possible.
Nurse informatics specialists have found innovative ways to get client information, provide the required information, and provide directions to services. Innovations like AI-enabled chatbots can help guide and educate clients when the available staff are not able to or are busy with other clients.
Nurse informatics specialists also help to protect personal health information and employee data in times of emergency. They are uniquely positioned to tackle security and privacy challenges.
Besides, their specialty in system interoperability will help to streamline emergency services during the pandemic, such as laboratory testing, equipment disinfection, rapid screening processes, reporting tools, and innovative patient-facing technologies.
Finally, nursing information specialists are instrumental in tracking the pandemic, making forecasts on the outbreak, and providing an outside perspective on health care challenges and proposing innovative solutions.
I ask you to support the proposal to improve health care provision in times of crisis. Please contact me with any additional questions you may have
Respectfully Yours,
