Consider how Islam is similar to and different from Judaism and Christianity

Islam, Judaism and Christianity collectively fall under the Abrahamic category of religion in respect to their common Semitic origin. Muslims, Judaists and Christian identify with Abraham as the patriarch of their religion. Similarly, the three religions are monotheistic in nature. Islam, Judaism and Christianity also represent the largest religious group globally with 3.6 billion or 54 percent of the global population identifying with Abrahamic religion. Nevertheless, the Trinitarian belief of Christians in three Gods in one God conflicts with Islamic and Judaism strict belief in one God. Similarly, whereas Christians view Jesus as God and savior, Muslims consider Jesus, whom they refer to as Isa as a prophet or Messiah rather than God. Both Judaism and Islam consider worship of Jesus as idolatry heresy and similarly condemn view of human incantation to God as heresy.

What is the origin and importance of the Qur’an?

The Qur’an defines what’s moral and immoral, evil and good, and ethical and unethical in Islam. The Qur’an is the holiest book in Islam revealed to the Muslims arch prophet Muhammad by God in a period of more than twenty three years. Muslims consider Qur’anic revelation as the most sacred word dictated to the Prophet Muhammad by God as a correction of the errors found in past holy scriptures including the Old and New Testaments. God revealed the Qur’anic scriptures to Muhammad in Arabic language between the 7 th and 8 th century AD. The present version of the Qur’an dates back to the 9 th century, briefly after the death of Muhammad through the work of Caliph Uthman. Overall, the Qur’an has 114 chapters written in the original Arabic language with all chapters starting with the phrase Bismillahir rahmanir Raheem except one chapter.
