A hostile crowd is that which is likely to cause damages to property or even injuries to individuals during sporting events. It consists of individuals who are restless and cannot be calmed even by security officials. Hostile crowds can throw various projectiles, and vandalize property. The first step to take is to ensure that there is adequate security whenever competitive matches are played. Some teams are usually traditional rivals, and consequently, fans who attend such matches may never take losing easily. The security team needs to comprise of police officers and private security personnel in charge of security inside the facility.

It will also be important to spell out clearly that individuals who engage in violent behavior, cause damage and injuries will be held responsible. Such a seemingly benign statement may influence hostile crowds to exercise restraint. Nevertheless, it is also important to use the assumption of risk, which means the management states clearly to the fans that the management of the facility will not be held responsible in case of injuries (Fried & Kastel, 2020). The fans will need to be informed in advance about the risk of participating in sporting activities, especially those with a history of violent behaviour and hooliganism.

Lastly, the sporting facility will need to be insured. Insurance is very important, especially that which deals with compensation in case of damages to the property. Sometimes the extent of damage to sports facilities is usually immense such that funds from the facilities’ coffers may not suffice to repair the damage. Insurance, in this case, comes handy in ensuring that the operations of the facility are restored immediately and that there is continuity of activities (Guan & Wang, 2018). Most of these strategies are aimed at minimizing liability, as well as cushioning the management against exorbitant costs.
