Indoor sports facilities have become one of the most commonly used facilities in colleges. Universities have invited indoor sporting facilities majorly because of the changing weather patterns. However, indoor facilities are becoming more useful in conducting several other activities such as sports practice, band marching practices, and recruitment centers, among others. The University of Georgia's Sanford Stadium named after the former president of the university is known for hosting major sporting events. The recent surge of investment in university sports is commonly linked to the increasing investment in sports by many companies.

Sanford Stadium has experienced various expansions in its sporting arena because of its prestige. The stadium is the playing venue for the University of Georgia football team. The stadium has the capacity of 92,746 and is known as one of the beautiful facilities that often hold major college football events (Soles, 2018). Stanford university stadium has a long history for hosting major events such as the 1996 men and women soccer competition that was widely viewed by a massive number of spectators. Stanford University has not only invested sporting facilities because of the changing weather patterns but because it the increasing interest in sporting opportunities.

The indoor facility expansion will be built using students fee, donations from well-wishers and money generated from fundraising events. The facility is expected to host major events such as college football, or it can be rented. It will host physical education events and also used for recruitment trials for college athletes. The facility will hire five fulltime staff members to manage the building. The naming rights will be issued to the person or an entity that makes the highest contribution towards its construction.

three SMART goals for improving your facility:

Opportunities

Threats

Strengths

Strength-Opportunity Strategies

Create an environment that promotes sports growth by improving the physical layout of the facility

Strength-Threats Strategies

improve the marketing of the facility as start of art sporting arena by allowing community incentives at a low cost

Weaknesses

Weakness-Opportunity Strategies

Create a positive atmosphere for learning and training by improving customer satisfaction and the overall environment

Weakness-Threats Strategies

Run both sporting and community events

Design layout of the facility for potential risks and regulatory issues

When developing the facility plan, factors such as physical hazards, unsafe acts and quality standards of care will be followed according to the specified laws. The design and layout of the facility will have done to meet the state and local building codes, the sporting laws and other governing body requirements, including the standards set by the facility design architects. The facility will have designed for appropriate used regarding the size, configuration and quality.

The construction design will consider access control to avoid being sued for injuries caused by trespassers and vandals, fences, walls, locked gates, and doors will be placed with a specified area designed for players. The facility will use visible signage warning, specifying prohibited areas. Besides, rules will be enforced by indicating the penalties of trespassers; these are some of the ways of limiting lawsuits.

The current maintenance needs and operations of the facility for potential legal issues or threats

The facility maintenance and operations process will involve risk management personnel to develop a checklist for maintenance, systemic inspections, and repairs of the facility on specified periods. Due to various exposures, the condition of the facility is subjected to change and the unique physical and risk characteristics. Maintenance and report of equipment need to take place within a scheduled time (Schwarz, Hall & Shibli, 2015). The process entails several activities such as cleaning and restoring air pressure, replacement and correcting significant problems and tightening equipment to minimize lawsuit caused by injuries (Schwarz, Hall & Shibli, 2015). Maintenance will be conducted by qualified personnel who is expected to follow manufacturer guidelines and specifications.

Current technological trends in facility management to identify potential improvements to your selected facility

The recent technological trends in college indoor and recreational faculties are a reflection, so the increased sophistication of technology that focuses on the needs of users. Sporting arenas all over the world are now using advanced technology such as digital signage. These are the LED scoreboards and projection technology (Gong, 2017). For the Stanford indoor sporting facility, I would recommend the use of biometric technology to boost security and also authenticate the participant's identity. Biometrics such as drones is ideal in collecting aerial images thermal imaging which is suitable for rooftop inspection (Gong, 2017).

Maintenance and Operations Planning

The maintenance and operation plan is a comprehensive process that will be more than fixing broken equipment. The maintenance and repair work will involve a regular schedule of trash removal, cleaning, sweeping and replacement of various places and equipment. All the indoor floors will need regular cleaning to maintain the smoothness. Cleaning will involve wiping checking for sticky surface and tears or hole in the floor that might cause tripping (Schwarz, Hall & Shibli, 2015). Regular inspection of for any equipment mounted on the walls will men examining each item after every game. Padding needs to checked for tear and holes and cleaned after every game.

Safety and Security Plan:

The day to day activities for the facility will include conducting inspection and risk assessment as a daily routine and assigning duties to different teams to facilitate observation and reporting the security status. Monitoring CCTV to check for any security breach. The security plan will entail an operational awareness by collecting intelligence and sharing of information. Other security measures include checking for hazardous materials.

During events, a sporting event sect team will be in place to conduct security operation and plan for facility sports events. The team will provide information to identify potential threat such as hooliganism and crown disorder, vandalism, theft, fraud and any logistical failure (Soles, 2018). The fiscally responsible plan will include setting up communication channels to include law enforcement agencies, human resource department, information technology personnel and student affair to review any issues of security that might need immediate action. Maintain consistent staffing levels throughout the events will minimize the costs of security personnel. Having a coordinated approach to security will help to utilize existing resources to mitigate some of the risks that might cause massive damage to the facility.

An emergency that may arise during events can be mitigated by developing an emergency plan. The plan entails proper coverage of the event; maintain appropriate emergency equipment and supplies. Other emergency requirements include emergency medical personnel on-site, and conducting the pre-participation physical screening, advocating for safe practice and training technique (Soles, 2018). These are some of the issues that will be implemented in the emergency plan.

Networking and Communications:

Develop a communication plan with alternative methods to communicate with key personnel and other relevant stakeholders including the police department, campus security officials, the medical emergency personnel and fire department. Involving both county and state emergency management is critical during the emergency response (Gong, 2017). Using various communication equipment including voice, data, video, audio and PA systems, and digital message boards will help in reaching out to multiple agencies. Having back up power for communication equipment is key and other equipment such as megaphones as a backup for crowd control and participant notification (Gong, 2017).Involvement of the community in the sporting facility is important in strengthening the community through sport. Communities can participate as volunteers (Gong, 2017). During sporting events, community participation will be important to increase ownership and also act as agents to market the facility

Recommendations and Technology

The two main objectives are to create an environment that promotes sports growth by improving the physical layout of the facility and enhance the marketing of the facility as the start of the art sporting arena. As a facility manager, I would recommend modification of the physical design to include an additional three stories to improve the facility. The expansion should consist of additional sections such as the viewing stand, offices and restrooms and where possible, the modification should be made to accommodate other indoor sporting events such as wrestling. The expansion of the facility is critical to make it a start of the art facility, which needs to be attractive for stakeholders to host major events such as college football.

In terms of technology, facial and voice activation is a biology-based security system that can be used in sporting facilities. Such technology would be appropriate in maintaining security. Biometric technology can help mitigate some potential threats such has verifying people identity. These technologies are also ideal in granting access to restricted areas .it can also be used to gather data and alto relay information instantly. With the ever-growing security threats, such as terrorism, protecting sporting facilities form these risks would mean adopting the best security practice. Using modern equipment is an essential part of improving the security of the facility.
