Taxes are one of the most essential part of our society as they direct how the society functions as a government. Taxes facilitate many public services, as without them, the government would be unable to function properly. Though people pay taxes, there is a lot of dispute regarding the amount that they are taxed as well as what the government uses the money for. The people are confused as to which type of taxing system is better for the people. The current tax system in the United States is the progressive tax which states that the more a person earns, the higher they are taxed.
Though there is a lot that is going on in the government, the foundation of the tax system is still not agreeable. The notion that people are taxed more simply because they are well off sounds more like punishing those individuals who are doing well for themselves. Even though it is understandable that those who are not well off do not deserve to be taxed the same as those who are wealthier, requiring higher tax from those who are of the higher class is still unfair. Regressive tax, on the other hand, penalizes the poor, as it does not consider the means by which the individual earns their income.

At the same time, individuals who pay less tax due to progressive tax system are the ones who benefit from the programs that are funded by the government. This is unfair since those who pay more taxes do not benefit from the programs that are funded by the same tax money. Everyone should receive a flat tax rate while at the same time, the government should integrate a system where the less fortunate as well as those who are contributing to the society should receive tax deductions. It is not fair that the people who make more money should pay either higher or lower taxes as it will be either punishment or favoritism towards one class. However, if everyone gets to pay equal taxes regardless of their income will motivate people to work harder and the wealthy will not be punished through higher taxes or favored through lower taxes.
