Family plays an important role in healthcare. A study carried out by Forouzan and his colleagues stipulated that the incorporation of the family in FCC improved healthcare. This research indicated that the incorporation of the family in healthcare reduced the world’s mortality rate from 87 to 51 in every one thousand live births ( Rostami, Hassan, Yaghmai, Ismaeil & Suandi, 2015). Based on the study conducted by the American Nursing Association, it was evident that strong family relationships can reduce death rates by 8% among the FCC elderly patients ( Rostami et al., 2015). These statistical findings are important since they unravel the importance of incorporating family, government and other institutions in healthcare.

The overall cost of healthcare is increasing. As mentioned by the US Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the United States government spends about $3.5 trillion yearly on healthcare ( Galarraga & Pines, 2016). Based on the survey carried out in 2017, the healthcare costs had increased by 4% ( Galarraga & Pines, 2016). Also, the 2016 OCDE statistical data corroborated that healthcare costs in the US were higher than that of Switzerland by 31% ( Galarraga & Pines, 2016). These findings indicate that the patients are the ones suffering since they will have to shoulder the high costs. With this trend, death rates among the elderly are likely to increase.

According to the 1996 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), 41.9% of Americans are enrolled with health maintenance organizations (HMO) ( Galarraga & Pines, 2016) . Over the past decades, people have drifted from the indemnity care to HMO. The survey also corroborated that 45% of a non-elderly population were likely to enroll with HMOs than 20% of the elderly individuals ( Galarraga & Pines, 2016) . With this trend, the majority of US citizens are likely to access better healthcare. As a result, high mortality rates in the society will reduce.

Technology has played an instrumental role in improving healthcare. For instance, the use of advanced imaging technology has increased by 12% in the last decade ( An & Palisano, 2014). Also, the survey indicated that 44% of hospitals in the United States use EHR systems ( An & Palisano, 2014). These findings are important since they indicate how technology has been embraced in society. With the increasing technological revolutions in healthcare, patients are likely to benefit from better health care services. For instance, HER systems are efficient platforms for data storage.

Chronic illnesses in the US are common among the minority and the poor. According to the American Diabetes Association, 80% of minority groups in America were found to harbor chronic health conditions than other populations ( Look & Mott, 2013). Furthermore, the research indicated that 67% of this population was likely to exhibit two or more chronic illnesses ( Look & Mott, 2013). These statistical findings confirm that US minority populations do not have access to better care. Also, this data implies that the majority of minority groups in the US live under debilitating conditions.

The US pharmaceutical industry is instrumental in the revenue collected by the nation. According to PEW research center survey, the US pharmaceutical industry constitutes 45% of the total global pharmaceutical market ( Look & Mott, 2013). Also, Look, and Mott (2013) stipulated that six of the top pharmaceutical companies in the world are based in the US. These findings confirm that the world’s healthcare sector primarily depends on the drugs supplied by the US. This implies that the US economy is anchored on the revenue collected from the pharmaceuticals.

Part B

The information highlighted by Robert and Abby apply to healthcare. The US government wanted to adjust the health insurance laws so that the allocated subsidies could be used in multiple health insurance agencies that do not comply with the law. This move was reached at following the increased claims that the majority of Americans are unable to access such services. However various states requested for the federal government to provide waivers so that the institutions and individuals that are legible for this medical benefits can be determined. During the Washington state conference, the top officials of the “Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services” claimed that it was a mistake for the government to incorporate all the health care policies under the” Affordable Care Act.” In this Congress, it was also claimed that this problem could be mitigated by only allocating the federal subsidies on the insurance policies that meet the stipulated standards.

Furthermore, the insurance policy should be sold out in the public market so that the largest portion of the population can easily access it. Under this act, the premium tax credit will be available for the majority of salaried people. Families are likely to benefit from this policy since a salaried individual will be liable to about $83000 per year ( Robert &    Abby, 2018) . This move by the federal government will likely improve how people perceive medical care. Also, the strategy will help employers to cover for their employees’ medical requirements. It is no secret that most people find it difficult seek for medical cover on their own. However, with this policy in place, people will freely access proper medical care without restrictions.

According to Dr. Sydney, Opioids were used in the past for medical purposes. With the little medical know-how at the time any ingested substances that could relieve the pain was considered to have a medicinal value. However, she highlights some of the challenges associated with this treatment criterion. For instance, morphine was associated with anxiety, lack of sleep and other psychological problems. Due to its ability to reduce pain, morphine gained relevance in the treatment of soldiers. As much as the drug was used for medical purposes, it contributed to high levels of addiction among the users. Therefore, it through this concept, that morphine usage spread widely across the world. Dr. Sydney goes further to claim that alcohol was the problem at this time since it was adored like a religion. However, it is worth noting that morphine was used in the past for the treatment of alcoholism.

The information gleaned from the podcast reinforces the fact that medicine can also be used for social control. Considering that alcoholism is usually associated with perpetration of unacceptable behavior, its control is important for the establishment of social order in the society. Since it has been stated that Morphine was used in the past for the treatment of alcoholism, it reinforces the allegation that medicine can control behavior. The main goal of healthcare in society is to improve people’s lifestyle. Therefore, reduction of alcohol abuse is one way of nurturing a healthy lifestyle in the society.
