The IV is the level of fear for crime among citizens.

Indicate how the independent variable in 1 could be measured (conceptualize, operationalize, and describe the level of measurement for the variable)

The level of fear for crime among citizens is the extent to which they would worry about criminal activities such as rape, murder, and robbery. Their level of trust for each other, how often they report crime cases, and measures they have put in place to counter crime can be examined (Kelling et al., 1974). In this case, the overall findings will determine their level of fear of crime. The number of people expressing fear by not trusting each other, having sophisticated measures to counter crime, and often reporting criminal cases can be determined. The number can be compared to that of people who do not trust other people, do not have any security measures, and do not report criminal cases. The findings can be expressed in form ratio or a percentage to show the level of fear for crime among people. Their level of preparedness and determination indicated that they fear crime and would do anything within the power to prevent it.

Identify one dependent variable (DV) from the selected research question. In one sentence indicated the DV. The DV is…

The DV is the differing patrol levels in the locality.

Indicate how the dependent variable identified in 3 could be measured (conceptualize, operationalize, and describe the level of measurement for the variable)

The differing patrol level entails the effort of security agencies in the locality to curb crime. The resources, time, and effort they have put in place to fight crime in the region can be ascertained. In this particular case, the researcher can determine the variable by collecting information about the number of hours spend on patrol, the number of police officers involved, and the resources they use. This can depict their level of alertness and zeal to combat crime (Curiel & Bishop, 2018). Consequently, this will affect the rate of crime and fear among people in the locality. This will show the level of crime.

Express the research question in a measurable hypothesis statement (ensure that the hypothesis statement includes the independent variable and the dependent variable you identified in items1 and 2 above). Use the following structure to help formulate your answer.

Citizens with significant fear for crime are more likely to control the level of crime that citizens without fear crime.
