There are four current priorities for nursing. These include building a scientific background for clinical practice, preventing disease and disability, managing and eliminating symptoms resulting from illness, and performing end-of-life and palliative care. I fully agree with the aforesaid priorities and I would not suggest either elimination or addition of any of them. Build the scientific foundation for clinical practice; for instance, ensures that nurses combine scientific research with clinical knowledge and patient preferences, especially during making healthcare decisions. This prioritizes the use of high-quality information in making professional judgments (Garcia, Cassiani & Reveiz, 2015). Hence, it ensures that care is safe, effective and compassionate and that is all that evidence-based practice encompasses.

Additionally, preventing disease and disability works towards limiting the prevalence of chronic diseases and associated functional impairments that greatly impact the physical status of the elderly. Therefore, this priority is crucial in treating acute illnesses and chronic diseases and ensures a general reduction in incidences and prevalence rates. Notably, this aligns with the requirements of evidence-based practice since the priority improves diagnosis, treatments, and prevention of both acute and chronic illnesses (Garcia, Cassiani & Reveiz, 2015). Further, managing and eliminating symptoms resulting from illness is a priority that provides standard procedures for symptom identification and classification based on both phenotypic and genomic characteristics. This ensures that nurses illuminate potential biomarkers. Therefore, the correct therapeutic and clinical interventions can be used for biological and pathogenic processes of the disease as well as its pharmacologic responses. Finally, end-of-life and palliative care are important priorities that cannot be omitted since evidence-based practice requires critical consideration of the patient’s physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs (Garcia, Cassiani & Reveiz, 2015). Therefore, palliative care is a priority that ensures adequate follow-ups and informs clinical meaningfulness in providing care.
