The communication skills paradigm in nursing is core because it is the principal medium through which a patient receives maximum care through an efficient flow of information between them and the caregivers. However, it is not just a just instinct but rather a concept that requires consistent nurturing to improve a nurse masterly on its application when engaging with the patients. Thus, in the view of this paper, improving communication requires several procedural steps. First, the nurse must adopt a conceptual, phenomenological understanding of communication by making it a priority concept in their practice. Consequentially, as a result of this new perspective change, they tend to develop traits such as increased engagement with patients, improved listening skills and use of simple, concise messages. Each of these character traits mentioned above is essentially the core areas that the nurse must focus on to improve through the use of such strategies such as training and regular practice.
Nursing communication is a fundamental principle to patient safety and care because it serves as the medium of effective assessment, evaluation, execution of treatment plans and in some conditions, the actualization of intervention strategies. Thus, from this perspective, communication helps nurses to deliver quality services to the patient, such as explanation on medication and inquiry on the general status of the patient, which may reveal important details of their progress. In more explicit terms, communication of nurses is the tool through which the nurse delivers their service thus is an influential factor of their safety and the level of quality that offer patients. Also, nurse communication model is part of the tools that the nurses' practitioners engage with their patients to determine whether they may have any concerns. The complaints and feedback of the patients are vital towards developing such strategies that help to address any issues that may be inhibiting their progress and this helps to improve safety and quality of care.
