The selected art work is titled Freedom of Love and was done in the year 1920 by Andre Breton. The type of this selected artwork is poem. Breton was a very famous writer and philosopher. This poem is one of his most famous art works.

This work seems to be influenced by the Western, particularly the European culture. The reason for associating this art work with the European culture is the fact that it appears to belong to the surrealism movement, which started in Europe. Surrealism was a movement both in literature and art, which integrated fiction and imaginary things into the reality so as to surprise the readers. Surrealism started in France and the author of this poem, Andre Breton, was the one who initiated it. Surrealism is evident in the irrationality of the images regarding wife and wood fire, hourglass and teeth of a tiger as presented in lines 1-8 within the poem. In reality, none of these images have any relation. The two images are juxtaposed with the intention of introducing some sense of fiction and confusion into the reality. Readers may be surprised when they read the poem.

The approach of this art work is mainly Dionysian because of the irrationality in it. Dionysian concept is an approach to literature, which involves much irrationality and appeal to emotions and instincts. This poem is based on the appeal to the imagination of the reader using some strange images put together with real things. However, my approach to it is Apollonian since it is based on reasoning to establish the logic in it.

This poem is the best example of surrealism and it played a huge in enhancing this movement during the 1920s. It is well presented with its point of value being the ability to integrate fiction and imagery into reality. Its main message is about the high value and importance of a woman. Yes, I would recommend this piece of art to others because it is quite interesting.
