The preset communication channels in organizations are getting challenged by the continuous implementation of communication technologies. There different forms of communication channels which include telephones, emails and fax machines among others. Technological advancement in organizations has made it mandatory for employees to train on the use of new kind of technologies. The available communication channels should still allow for employers and employees to keep in touch even after working hours. It should be generally effective for problem solving and decision making (Shockley-Zalabak, 2014).
Organizational communication should be suitable for all forms of information delivery. It should enhance coordination of work in both one-way communication and two-way communication. For instance, communication channels such as the telephone are fundamental in that they can be used for both one and two way communication. This is by calling and by leaving a text message. Some computer applications such as emails, blogs and chat applications permit for two-way communication. The available communication channels in organizations should have the capacity for feedback, should have more than one channel of passing information and should focus more on the receiver than the sender. Effective communications channels should provide for immediate feedbacks from the receiver (Shockley-Zalabak, 2014).

The most effective medium of organizational communication is the face to face mode of communication. Other lean mediums such as bulk mails and posters are also effective. Information that is complex and ambiguous is best passed through rich medium of communication which is face to face. Routine information that is less complex can be passed across through lean media. This is because important information is passed across through both verbal and non-verbal communication for emphasis. Lean media is less effective for complex information as it does not allow an individual to express the tone of the message. Communication technological advancement should ensure that communication channels are private and well secured from unauthorized parties.
