Nursing homes are key parts of the long term care sector. They have provided better services to the elderly and disabled individuals for several years (Aung et al., 2017) . Healthcare regulations keep on changing and as a result, the changes introduce new demands from the market which forced nursing homes to adapt (Martin & Clark, 2021) . Emerging technologies, demographic changes, and the changing perspectives of the models of healthcare delivery often come with changes and opportunities (Aceto et al., 2018) . One of the factors affecting the future of nursing homes is the aging of the baby boomer generations. According to Irish (2015) , the first of the baby boomers in 2011 started turning 65 years at a rate of 8000 daily. The study predicted the pace to continue until 2029. Such a high number of the aged population will eventually attract more healthcare needs such as the treatment of expensive chronic diseases.

One example of changes that affected the nursing homes is the current transfer of medical records in electronic forms. The nursing homes needed to implement telehealth which was important in enhancing quality care for the patients (De Luca et al., 2015) . Telehealth was intended for remotely accessing healthcare services as well as managing patient’s healthcare.

The purpose of this research was to conduct a literature review to help analyze the current healthcare regulations in place within nursing homes and determine how the nursing homes will be forced to adapt and continue the provision of quality healthcare to their patients in the future. The working hypothesis was that nursing homes will remain a staple in the long term care sector even though they will change within their policy and inner culture.

The methodology for this qualitative study was a literature review of studies from various databases in addition to conducting a structured interview with an expert in healthcare delivery.
