Prompt
Personally, I have watched different film scenes that are captivating. Nonetheless, I have often discussed with my friends on some of the impressive moments in a certain film scene. The discussion that we were involved in was based on the techniques that the film maker exposes. The most interesting part that made everyone in the discussion amazed on every film they watched was the camera angle and shots. Both translate to better views and great effects. Film makers stylize by putting in their skills in cinematography to expose the various captivating moments in any film.
Task: Techniques in a film- Lord of the Rings: Gandalf vs Balrog
There are various techniques used in a film scene. Some of the techniques include camera shots, camera movement, the lighting used, animation, cinematography, scale and miniatures. One of the techniques used is the camera movement. When the scene starts, the camera moves in a way to bring the characters out clearly. Also, there is another technique used by the cameras on the issue of shots. The camera shot taken on Frodo Baggins at the beginning of the scene is a close-up shot. The shot enables the people viewing to see the reaction of Frodo on what is yet to happen and therefore captures his facial reactions. Secondly, the cameras are used to take panning shots. The shots stated as panning are those that are captured by the camera but are tilted to ensure the right framing and precise timing. The technique in the scene is found where the camera moves from Aragorn to Gandalf then to Legolas. Thirdly, the technique of camera angle is also used. The cameras are raised higher and crane shots taken. The shots are taken depending on where the scenes are acted. For instance, the cameras are highly raised to capture all the characters in the scene. Additionally, the cameras are used to take track-in shots. The technique is used to capture the subject to provide the best result. For example, the camera runs from far then moves close to the character that is targeted. Another style or technique that is used is the mixture of the focal lengths to make Gandalf dominate in a scene. The technique is used by the cameras to show a character dominating in the film scene compared to another character closer to them. Another technique used is the cinematography. The cinematography involves all the techniques within the scene. The techniques that wrap the cinematography include the camera movements, angles taken, scene lighting and the camera shots. The scene provides an exceptional cinematography. Deep focus has also been used when capturing Gandalf as he falls into a long hole underneath the earth’s surface.

A device the film scene uses and advances is the camera dolly. The device has been used effectively to move the camera horizontally to produce a smooth capture of the film scenes. Similarly, the technique used is dollying. It helps in the capture of the scenes close and far during filming. The “language” used in the scene helps viewers to know the subjects more. For example, the close-up and the aerial shots help the viewer to learn on the language the scene uses. The scenes suggest to the viewers that they should be attentive on what is happening in the next minutes. The closeness helps in obtaining a better view of the characters that in turn builds on the scene “language”. The “language” also helps the audience to try and figure out what the subjects could be thinking or the next step the characters would take. The possible effects derived are the visual effects. When an audience is watching the scene, they spot visual effects. For instance, there is fire that generates from the scene where Gandalf approaches. There is also an imagery of a large animated character within the same scene where Gandalf is. The imagery is as a result of a computer-generated technique. The audience watch the scene in 3D meaning that they are able to visualize all the aspects involved in the scene.
