The article selected for this essay is “ Seven ways the world is not designed for women ” by Prasad. In this article, Prasad (2019) provides useful insights regarding five ways in which the present world is not designed for women. Some of these ways encompass spacesuits, military equipment, car crash dummies, smart phones, and sports attire. Other ways cover science gear and office space. According to Prasad (2019), all these items are specifically designed for men and not women indicating that the world is discriminating against women.

For instance, Prasad argues that the United States military is an example of an organization that privileges the male experience and perspective. In particular, the US armed forces are characterized by masculine-warrior paradigm and all structures, equipment and activities are structures are organized around combat activities. The masculine-warrior image of the armed forces signifies that masculine lifestyles, values, and norms are highly valued. In this culture, women are considered as outsiders. In spite of this masculine-warrior image, the US military has witnessed a significant number of women participate in the country's wars. Critics of the women included in combat have argued out that military readiness and effectiveness will be compromised by allowing women to participate in combat activities. Rooks believe that by including more women in the US armed forces, the combat will be changed into something different.

are nNumerous gender concepts can influence gender inequality within society. Gender polarization argues that gendered identity and personality mirrors unequal and different roles for females and males. Strong traits define femininity. The gender of the psyche is anticipated to be consistent with the sex of the body. Form this perception; sex of a person should be different so that bodies look female and male. For instance, to ensure that they do not resemble men, women may opt to bleach their hair while some men may remove or shave their beards while others may inject hormones and build muscles to avoid looking like women.

Assumptions regarding biology have also influenced gender equality. Scholars such as David Jessel, Ann Moir, and Robert Wright have argued out that there are some biological facts. A survey conducted in the US demonstrated that 40% of the American public believed that biology plays a significant role in creating feminine and female attributes. Additionally, Rhode posits that many individuals fail to view gender inequality as a serious problem.

Some people believe that instead of using differences, gender inequality should be honored. Sociobiologists have for a long time argued that female nurturance and male dominance are universal traits in human beings and most biologically identical animals. The genetic basis for sex differences, according to Sociobiologists lies in the structure of sex cells. In particular, the reason why the female egg is considerably large that it comprises of the yolk that nourishes the embryo in the course of early development. On the other hand, according to Rhode, the male's sperm is significantly small, easily replicated and mobile. From this perspective, men can spread their genes via promiscuous sex because they can manufacture millions of sperms. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, women depend on men.

Conclusively, the article has unearthed numerous gender concepts that have influenced gender inequality within society. Some of the perceptions encompass gender polarization, sex role congruency model, assumptions about the hormonal imbalance in women, as well as, assumptions regarding biology.
