Nurses are aware that the healthcare systems in place are in great disarray. Therefore, they have made tremendous efforts by involving themselves to influence changes in laws, policies, and regulations that circumvent the health care system as a whole (Abood, 2007)). Nurses actively interact with patients and their families most since they are the first line providers serving the patients' needs (Abood, 2007). Therefore, as a routine practice nurses are well-positioned not only to see the impact of health policies on individual patients but also to determine and assess the necessity for more advanced changes in the health care system and policies and regulations that are linked to many health-related issues. In the recent times worldwide, nurses represent the single largest group of professional health care practitioners. According to Naylor & Kurtzman (2010), the number of registered nurses in the US has increased steadily, impacting the rise in numbers of APRNs. Due to this rise various organizations were formed for nursing practitioners. With their large numbers, nurses have both the will and human resources to transform the current health care system's overall status. Through interactions with governments and other agencies, nurses’ actions can impact the policies and laws that govern the health care regiments.
However, some challenges have to be faced in an attempt to reform the health care systems. Regardless of nurses comprising a large group of professional health care practitioners, their numbers are less compared to the large numbers of patients they continuously have to deal with daily (Naylor & Kurtzman, 2010). A gap exists between quality primary care and the workforce available. This limits nurses' interactions with most patients since they are constantly bombarded with various cases, which they have to pre-emptively work to settle. For this to be resolved, efforts to actively train more nursing professionals and advocate for more individuals to enroll in the nursing courses have to be made (Naylor & Kurtzman, 2010). Nurses struggle to express their opinions and views to government officials and agencies concerning health care system reforms (Cassidy, 2012). In the process of policy-making, the final decisions mostly lie with government officials, most of whom are not linked to the nursing profession in any way (Cassidy, 2012). In this case, the solution is simple. More officials from the nursing organizations or any veteran nursing professionals should be appointed and actively involved in policy-making processes on health care policies and regulations matters.

There is a need to seriously consider the idea of actively involving nursing professionals during policy-making on healthcare systems (Abood, 2007). To better advocate for this, it is crucial to note that almost everything concerning humans is about demand laws. Therefore, putting in place a system that provides for nursing professionals' necessities during policy-making would go a long way in promoting the idea. Moreover, soliciting support from the general public by sharing this idea by creating programs such as public involvement in policy-making at the clinic levels helps show the masses the picture of what to expect.
