Question 5

Tannis handled the situation with Goldstein with a lot of care, and she was cautious not to hurt the feeling of the people she was working with, including Vujevic. Although she had trusted Goldstein a young Russian financial wizard who would be useful in solving the problem at hand, Tannis was ready and willing to reconsider are stand and make alternative moves. Importantly, she acknowledge that it was not the right time to involve Goldstein in the discussion, and went ahead to apologize for her mistakes and refusal to heed the advice of Vujevic ( Mai, 2017) . Taking a personal responsibility for the mistake was a good move and it helped Tannis to move ahead to solve the problem. At the same time, by approaching Goldstein in his cubicle and explained to him why he should no longer be involved in the discussion proved that Tannis handled the situation with a lot of care. She was honest while at the same time ready to maintain relationship with Goldstein. She made Goldstein to disengage from the discussion without any negative feelings. Therefore, Tannis perfectly handled the situation with Goldstein.

However, Tannis learned a number of lessons from the situation. The most important lesson she learned was that it is important to listen to other people, especially when they are giving advice she may not be comfortable with. Vujevic informed Tannis that was not the right time to involve Goldstein in the discussion but she ignored ( Mai, 2017) . Later, she realized that the Vujevic had a point and only wanted the discussion to be successful. The second lesson she learned was that a person may be a wizard in a given area but that does not mean that he can solve everything or any emerging problem. Tannis believed that Goldstein would be useful in solving the problem because he was a financial wizard. However, she later realized that she was wrong and that his input was not necessary in the situation. Tannis was able to learn a lot of lesson that would make her a better person in future engagements.

Question 6

I believe Tannis was more strategic and well prepared to play an active role in the conversation at the second dinner. First, Tannis’ decision to play along in the conversion in the second dinner was important because it enabled her to fit in the Russian corporate culture. In order to succeed in solving the issues, Tannis had to play the Russian way, which enabled her to have a fruitful discussion ( Mai, 2017) . At the same time, the decision to do a lot of listening and less talking was also strategic and made them to understand the intention and motives of the competitors. Tannis needed to understand the people she was dealing with first before making a deal, which was lacking in the first dinner. Therefore, the approach that Tannis and Vujevic used in the second dinner was strategic and worked for them, as it led to a fruitful discussion.

In addition, recognize and acknowledging the input of Russian in the conversation was important. It made Russian to feel appreciated and recognized, which made them to be open in the conversation ( Mai, 2017) . Besides, I believe the attire also played a role in the conversation. Hence, the approaches and strategies that Tannis and Vujevic used in the second dinner were successful because they were well thought out and were based on the prevailing environment.
