Information censorship is considered a global occurrence. Time and again, there have been emerging issues of information getting banned to protect the public interest. Most of the times, information censorship appears unreasonable to many people while a necessity to others. In the United States, information censorship exists in mass abundance. Each country has its censors against the media in one way or another, the amount of information censorship that determines what to show and what not, varies. Also, there are various types of censorship. One of the most typical rationales behind information censorship is the age limits for the viewers of different media. Most of the times, the censorship can be a comprehensive ban on a particular offensive topic, and the definition of a taboo subject will be described in accordance to the governing authority of the country (Moore, 2015). Therefore, governments should censor particular information from the public if it is in the best interests of the public as a whole.

As a community, the media, as well as other sources of information, has a significant influence on the society as a whole. Nevertheless, people tend to overlook the point that there are twisted insights and biases of events and stories in the news. Also, the media does a poor work in depicting things as they are in a bid to follow some convention and to maintain their shows on the air. As such, most of the times people are being fed information that may not be true and sometimes totally baseless. This implies that the media can manipulate the people's perceptions in a manner that is not visible. In this sense, it is hard to fully trust the media reports or news since they are skewed and biased (Simon, 2015). The media owners are often driven by greed, popularity, and money; hence, they fight to report or disseminate information that they believe the public will be interested to hear. Therefore, the government should protect the general public from such information through censorship.

Another reason for censorship is that the media needs to be censored for the minors. This is because the young minds of the children cannot be able to distinguish between real information and make-believe ones. Also, the amount of violence shown through the media hugely affects the perceptions of the minors. It should be stressed to the minors that killing people and acting violently is immoral and illegal (English, 2015). Most of the media information being fed to the children make them believe that violence and drugs are cool. As such, the depiction of violence gives the kids a false sense of the acuity of what is right or wrong. Thus, the amount of violence portrayed by the media needs to be censored to safeguard the children. Additionally, the government should impose regulations against the casual approach to nudity and pornography that tend to give the minors wrong ideas (Moore, 2015).

The government needs to curb the spread of wrong information since every person has an opinion and needs to be heard. The media has always been fighting for the freedom of speech to the extent of crossing all the boundaries of privacy rights of the population. Whether the information is right or wrong, the media broadcasts it regardless of the public opinion. It can also be noted that the media is not an impartial spectator as it has become a more potent weapon in the dissemination of information. In this light, it has reached a point where governments need to censor and verify the information that is printed and circulated to ensure its accuracy to safeguard the general public from malicious information.
