Grand Nursing Theory

King’s Conceptual System and Theory of Goal attainment and Transactional Process

King’s theory is based on the premise that human beings are the focus of nursing practice. The frameworks of nursing practice comprise of individuals, families, and communities with whom nurses interact in multiple environments to achieve the desired health goals. According to the theory, the goal of nursing is to promote, maintain, and restore health among the injured or the sick. The theory delves into the role of nurse-patient interaction in the attainment of health goals. To effectively achieve their professional roles, nurses require adequate knowledge of the nursing concepts relevant to their practice. There is a linkage between the interactions of nurses with the frameworks, which King defines as human behavior. The nurse’s skill and knowledge in interpreting this human behavior are paramount in attaining the health goals. The major concepts of the theory are nursing, health, individuals, environment, communication, perception, interaction, transaction, and stress ( McEwen, M., & Wills, 2017).

Middle Range Nursing Theory

Transition Nursing Theory

The transition theory of nursing was developed by Afaf Meleis. The theory is based on the experiences humans undergo as they cope with the dynamism in health, self-care, and well-being. “Transitions” is the central concept of the theory, which describes the interactions between nurses and patients in care provision. According to the theory, the objective of the nursing practice is to conceptualize and resolve the potential challenges that individuals undergo when dealing with changes in their health and well-being ( McEwen, M., & Wills, 2017).  These experiences, when dealing with the health changes, are the basis for “transitions.” It is imperative for the nurse to understand the nature and pattern of the transition to be able to develop appropriate and effective approachesto restoring “stable” health. Other key concepts of the theory are facilitators and inhibitors of the transition. The overall goal of the nursing practice is to promote health and wellbeing regardless of the transition.
