A group discussion is a communicative situation that involves a small number of people connected with a basic idea, meeting up to share their individual views and opinions on the main topic. This consequently improves the participants' speaking, thinking, and listening skills, and it also boosts their confidence level.

Some topics are inappropriate to talk about in group discussions, such as religion. (Kerley, 2014) , Religion is a sensitive topic because judging people's belief as religious or an atheist could be offensive and cause misunderstandings amongst people. Discussing your religion could come out as authoritative, and commenting on other people's faith could be coldly insulting to them. Hence such a topic should always be avoided.

Weight and physical appearance is another topic that is considered inappropriate to talk about in a general group discussion. Commenting on someone’s physical appearance could be very damaging to someone’s mental health as it may bring down their self-esteem. Therefore it is always advisable to keep opinions on such topics to avoid causing psychological problems by body shaming anyone in a group discussion.

On the other hand, talking about hobbies could be a very good topic for a general group discussion. Asking questions like ‘what do you like’ makes discussions very engaging and interesting for the participants. This is because most people love talking about what they like to do. At the end of it all, most people may discover that they have common interests, which brings people together positively.

Additionally, music can be a very appropriate subject for a group discussion. (Seeger. C, 1971) Generally, most people love music , and they normally feel certain emotions for a given song. Despite people having different music tastes amid a discussion, some people will discover they have similar tastes. People will always have something to say on a topic concerning music as it raises people’s mood during the discussion.

In conclusion, I agree that certain topics such as religion or weight and physical appearance are inappropriate to be brought up in a general discussion because I have unfortunately seen people get into conflicts because of such delicate subjects of the matter. On the other hand, such issues as education, hobbies and music are relevant topics of discussion as they are general. People should consider such when choosing a good topic for debate. Suitable topics of discussion could even end up being screening techniques in hiring people for a job.
