Gun control alludes to the regulation of the purchase and use of guns through the establishment of specific laws that help enforce such a rule (Kleck, 2019). The issue of gun control continually presents a raging debate in the United States with many supporting it while others are opposing it in equal measure. As it stands, gun control is a necessary part of American society due to the increasing cases of gun violence. These crimes range from schools to places or entertainment and the damage experienced afterward is immeasurable. Many people lose their lives while many more are left with incurable scars. These and many more present the valid reasons for gun control. Ownership of guns may not be the primary issue as many own firearms and will not use them to instigate violence against others. However as the general strain theory purports, many life stressors will push an individual into engaging in a crime such as gun violence (Zavala & Kurtz, 2017). It shows why gun control is necessary and why it would be an effective way of controlling crime.

Crime and violence from guns remain at an all-time high with the FBI estimating through its statistics that a high number of crimes in the United States. Many of these crimes will result in the loss of life and destruction of property. It is likely that gun violence will leave people with physical and emotional scars that may never heal. Homicides, robberies and other forms of crime as credited to the increased prevalence of gun ownership (Gunn et al., 2018). To a certain extent, violent crimes experienced by Americans are connected to gun ownership in one way or another. Nonetheless, the government continues to identify and implement appropriate strategies that will help address gun violence. It maintains the Gun Control Act, which was implemented in 1968 and continually develops gun control laws that help prevent gun violence. These laws may not entirely prevent these crimes, but they do so to a certain extent.
