The lecture that interest me is one on Hannibal Barca. History remembers him as one of the greatest army general to have ever walked on earth. He was a Carthaginian army general. His family had a military background, and upon his birth, he was urged by his father to continue being hostile to the Romans. He kept the promise when he defeated the Romans during the Second Punic War, although he failed to conquer Rome.
Hannibal used unique tricks to attack his enemies. He would present himself to the people as a liberator and the people would join him to fight Rome. In some cases, he would hire killers sent by the Romans to finish him, and use them to hit back on Rome. Interestingly, Hannibal Barca rode on elephants. A unique habit for a great warrior like him; he was fond of smaller elephants of African origin. Particularly, he was fond of one elephant named Surus. It is said he used the elephants as a status symbol. Hannibal Barca recruited Spain and Gaul mercenaries. Gaul were often deemed as quick with alliances. Upon losing his eye, he would rode on an elephant while approaching a battlefield for a better view. Specifically, when he went to the Cannae battlefield, he positioned himself at the centre and owing to his raised view; he was able to send his troops to launch attacks in a timely manner.

Whenever he was ambushed and grounded by the enemy, he would devise a way to trick the enemy and escape. At one time, he tied fire on an oxen, to disguise it as an army. This happened after he was trapped in a low field by Fabius Maximus. He came up with a plan of waiting for darkness to come, and he gathered thousands of oxen, and tied fire on the horns to look like an army. The Romans got confused and went after the animals, thinking it was the enemy coming to attack them.
Although a great warrior of his time, Hannibal Barca took his life for fear of being captured by the Romans.
