Meditation is a crucial topic as it entails a moment of reflection about various phenomena in one’s life or environment. The cons of selecting such a topic are that its broadness limits the knowledge that one can absorb at any given time. The benefits of meditation are also multifaceted and hard to comprehend and, therefore, may require consultation with an expert to elaborate on the specific aspects in alignment with meditation and the associated impact. The connection between meditation and sleep deficit (Dienstamann, n.d.), for instance, raises controversy. The pros of this topic are that one may learn quite a lot based on the amount of attention accorded to each aspect. For instance, one may choose to concentrate on the cognitive benefits of meditation before embarking on the emotional and physical aspects.

While there are several advantages connected to meditation, some benefits stipulated in various articles appear vague, particularly those with no scientific evidence. For instance, it is not clear how meditation increases the brain volume (Mercola, 2016). However, I believe that meditation plays a role in preventing brain loss (Mercola, 2016) due to the pre-occupations of the brain with various events that may have occurred in one’s life or other phenomena anticipated in the course of meditation.

The notion of reducing stress and apprehension (Melnick, 2013; Dienstmann, n.d.) is credible as meditation enables one to concentrate on other events that eventually displace the accounts of one’s stress. I also believe that meditation can play a critical role in preventing hypertension and some heart diseases (Melnick, 2013). The relaxation associated with meditation is highly likely to ensure an expansion of the blood channels and, therefore, ensure smooth flow of the blood. Melnick (2013) posits that meditation increases the production of nitric oxide which aids in the expansion of blood valves and the eventual decrease in the pressure required in pumping the blood to various body tissues.

In conclusion, therefore, the broadness of the meditation benefits is a disadvantage as it makes it difficult to comprehend some aspects, thereby, necessitating the intervention of experts. It is an advantage, however, as one may opt to concentrate on a specific aspect of one’s preference. Though some benefits appear vague, I believe that meditation plays a role in stress reduction, prevention of brain loss, hypertension and heart diseases.
