The four basic Models of Healthcare provider behavior and ethics

The four basic models of healthcare provider and behavior ethics include autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice. Autonomy means that the patients are independent and should be free to make decisions (6 Ethical Issues in Healthcare in 2020, 2020). Beneficence identifies the importance of medics remaining kind to patients while nonmaleficence identifies the need to avoid harm. Justice is the last model and it notes the importance of fairness and equal treatment when handling patients.

The concept of ethics and its application to healthcare organizations

Ethics is an important concept in healthcare organizations since it helps in deciding what is right or wrong. Markedly, those involved in healthcare organizations include medics, committees, and other workers (Cooper, 2017). Therefore, a healthcare organization will create a code of ethics that everyone should abide. A healthcare organization must ensure that all its agents follow the concept of ethics by abiding by the set code of conduct.

Liability issues surrounding mental health professionals

The liability issues include negative side effects from prescriptions, the ability to diagnose mental health, failing to prescribe antidepressants when it is necessary, failing to inform the patient’s family on time, and the patient failing to follow instructions (Gupta & Tampi, 2019). Markedly, there are many instances where the patient depicts negative side effects, and it is the healthcare provider who faces the blame (Scher & Kozlowska, 2018). Moreover, there are also chances that the patient might fail to follow the prescription directives, hence resulting in health complications and liability.

The importance of ethics in a mental health setting

First, ethics is important in mental health since it reduces the chances of experiencing conflict between the patient’s family and the health organization. Ethics will always offer direction regarding the best strategies or solutions that the medics should take (Mastroianni & Kahn, 2019). Moreover, ethics is also important since it also reduces errors in a mental health setting. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that mental health settings have an ethics code for proper operations.
