According to the World Health Organization, factors that determine health in relation to global health are individual characteristics and behaviors, the social and economic environment, and the physical environment that an individual is in. These are the significant factors that influence how an individual makes decisions concerning their health and that of their family members. There are several health indicators that are used to describe the health status of a developing country. Such factors are important in describing the strides a nation has made toward the attainment of global health standards. One of the factors that are used to indicate the health status of an emerging country is the rate of child mortality within a country. The reason why the child mortality rate is the best indicator of the quality of health in a poor country is a suitable factor to measure the health of a population because the future of a nation depends on how healthy children and the youth of the nation are. This is because poor countries lack access to quality health services and this puts the lives of newborn children at risk of death, and traditional beliefs tend to be a hindrance to access to healthcare ("Causes of Child Mortality in Developing Countries", 2018). In poor countries, for example, there is a high rate of child death, and this can be attributed to diseases such as pneumonia. Ironically, most of these deaths are usually preventable but children under five years succumb to them every day. The burden of health is the impact a disease has in terms of mortality, morbidity, and financial implications in regard to treatment. As countries develop economically, the critical changes that occur in their burden of health are the development of technology which facilitates scientific research, financial progress, and climate change. A change in technology and research, for example, occurs since such countries invest heavily in the prevention of disease for them to have a healthy population (Benziger, Roth & Moran, 2016). Financial progress also ensures that there are hospitals that are being set up to take care of the health needs of such populations and with less disease; there is more productivity thus economic growth. The population pyramid of Italy differs from that of Nigeria in that the population growth in Nigeria is still increasing while that in Italy has not been growing for the past few years despite the country having a low population. However, in regards to being able to sustain the growth, Nigeria is in a better position due to the availability of land.
